Welcome to my new Blog!
High Hope Road is the old country road I grew up on in small-town Sulphur, Louisiana.
I am happy to share this incredible season of life and some of the lessons I learned — and how these are now the foundation and pillars of who I am today.
In my weekly blog posts, expect to hear 3 things:
Adventure
Our family made maximum use of 6 country acres on High Hope Road: a barn full of animals, ponds and ditches full of creatures, enough neighbors to play games and ride bikes with, and an old basketball goal to shoot hoops with my imaginary teammates! This sense of wander and desire to explore has carried over into my adult life, now finding unspeakable joy discovering new cultures of the world while fulfilling the Great Commission. My hope is that the passion of Jesus Christ in me will move you to pray, go, and give financially in order to see the Kingdom of God become real in every nation, tribe and tongue.
Race
Each day, my older brother and I rode the bus to school. We lived halfway through the route, so each morning we were the first white kids to join the 12-15 black kids who lived further up High Hope. After we were picked up, we then picked up 10-15 white kids who were all part of an extended family. I gravitated toward the swag of the black guys, who always wore sweet shoes and basketball jerseys… while all of the white guys wore rebel flags and cowboy boots. Michael and I neither fit in on the front of the bus or the back of the bus, so we sat in the middle— the neutral ground— which guaranteed us front row seats to monthly race riots on our bus. I was conflicted between the color of my skin and our friendships with the black guys. I have been a sociology student ever since. Now I live in a very historical black community, spend a significant amount of time in Asia, and hope to use the knowledge, understanding and wisdom I have been given to reconcile and unite people from all walks of life.
Discovery
Even though I experienced a tremendous amount of chaos at an early age, the 6 years our family lived on High Hope Road were the best years of my childhood. My Mother worked hard to establish a loving home, and we never lacked for anything. This environment allowed me to thrive in school and sports, and established a healthy self-confidence that I can do anything I set my heart on. My hope is that by sharing the testimony of what God has done in me, you will discover more of who He has created you to be!
Prepare to be encouraged, inspired, and challenged by High Hope Road!
